Vegetable Juice Recipes for Weight Loss

On fasts you tend to lose a great deal of retained fluid and, with it, the important minerals potassium, magnesium and sodium. These fruit and vegetable juice recipes have been specially formulated to compensate for this and so keep levels up...

Vegetable Juices

Weigh vegetables after trimming. Wash them well, especially the ones that grow above the ground, which may have been sprayed with harmful chemicals. Shake dry.

#1
3 oz spinach, leaves and tender stalks only
5 oz carrots
5 oz fennel
3 oz celery
Put all ingredients through a juicer.

#2

6 oz tomatoes
4 oz cucumber
3-4 oz green pepper or endive
1 oz watercress or parsley
Put all ingredients through a juicer.

Fruit Juices

Wash alt fruit carefully, remembering that even if it looks clean, it has probably been sprayed with chemicals. Remove stones (pits), but leave apple cores, skin, etc.

#1
2 Granny Smith apples
2 apricots or 2-3 plums
1/2 mango or paw-paw, or 2 passion fruit, or 1 lime
Put all ingredients through a juicer.

#2
1 large ripe pear
1 large orange
4 oz black grapes

Fasting may help clear the mind and cleanse the system but it is not an effective long-term strategy for losing weight. When you fast, as much as 65 per cent of the weight loss is due to a breakdown of lean tissue-not fat. The result is a far from ideal body shape and a steepdrop in metabolic rate - as much as 40 per cent on extended fasts - making some weight regain inevitable once the fast is broken
